Assistive Technology Referral and Loan

Our Services

Assistive Technology is the use of devices and/or ways to increase, mobility, communication, and overall independence of people with disabilities and functional limitations. Assistive Technology ranges from low tech items, like long, flexible drinking straws, to high tech items, like an UbiDuo electronic communicator.

CRIL's Assistive Technology Coordinator is familiar with various AT devices and how they are used. The AT Coordinator will assist individuals with disabilities or functional limitations in selecting, acquiring and /or learning to use various assistive devices. The AT Coordinator may also offer suggestions to make a home or work place more accessible.

CRIL is one of 13 California agencies selected as an AT Device Loan Site by the CA Department of Rehabilitation. As an AT Loan Site, CRIL receives funding to create and maintain a lending library of various AT devices that can be loaned out to disabled individuals, and their family members, school counselors and teachers and businesses. Loan durations are from 2 to 12 weeks, depending upon the individual need.

The inventory of AT Loan devices can be seen in CRIL’s Hayward office or online at www.atnet.org. Examples of some of our devices are a below: a reacher or grabber, pocket talker listening device, talking farm learning toy, and various specialized keyboards.
